Start with measured area
Multiply length by width for simple rectangles, then measure turnouts and irregular sections separately. Do not price the whole front yard from a rough aerial image. The table uses broad 2026 planning estimates of $7–$12 per square foot for basic new residential concrete with ordinary access. These are estimates, not quotes, and removal of an old driveway is separate.
| New driveway size | 2026 planning estimate |
|---|
| 400 sq ft | $2,800–$4,800 |
| 600 sq ft | $4,200–$7,200 |
| 1,000 sq ft | $7,000–$12,000 |
Define what the rate buys
Ask whether excavation, base material, compaction, reinforcement and a broom finish are included. The proposal should state thickness and how it will be maintained across the slab. A thin edge hidden against soil is not the same as a consistent section. Ask how the crew checks finished elevations before placing concrete.
Heavy pickups, trailers and repeated turning can require a different design from a passenger-car driveway. Tell the pro what actually uses the space. Reinforcement helps control crack behavior but does not rescue weak ground or replace adequate slab thickness.
Compare access and drainage
A concrete truck close to the forms presents a different job from placing through a narrow side yard. Ask about pumping, small-load charges and protecting the street or landscaping. Caliche excavation and imported fill can change labor and disposal costs. Get those assumptions written down rather than hidden in a low unit price.
Check the slope at the garage, sidewalk and street. Water should have an intentional route that respects adjoining property and applicable requirements. A driveway that traps runoff at the garage can be a poor purchase even if the surface looks straight and clean.
Protect the pour after placement
Lubbock heat and wind can pull moisture from fresh concrete quickly. Ask about weather decisions, curing method and when different vehicles may return. Control-joint layout and timely cutting belong in the plan. No finish or reinforcement promises a crack-free driveway, so discuss how the contractor evaluates later concerns.

Compare written scopes, payment terms and maintenance instructions before choosing who to hire. Keep a separate allowance for any old-slab demolition your measurements did not include.
